Two new signings - Josh Tymon & Elliott Ward

Postby Furzdonny » Tue Jan 30, 2018 2:43 pm

We have two new signings. Josh Tymon, an 18 year old, left back and Elliott Ward, an experienced centre half from Blackburn. I believe both will play a role to keep us in League 1. Dan has said that "we’ve got different types of games coming up so it’s important we have different profiles of player in each position for different situations", so it looks like Josh and Lewie will both be playing at different times. He has also referred to the experience of Ward.

It is also said that we are looking to bring back Brendan Galloway. He would make a good sub, being able to play left back, centre half and defensive midfield, but we have 5 loanees (although you can go up to 8, only 5 can be in the 1st team match squad), so will that mean someone like EEL leaving?

Just what the doctor ordered - a 6'4" experienced CB who knows that his prime job is to defend and a young under-age internationalist, attack-minded defender hopefully with some pace to get back when things go wrong.
Good also that both players have commented on how enthused they are about the way Dan M wants us to play.
What is there not to like!
Would also welcome Brendan Galloway back. His career seems to have been going downhill lately from doing a good job deputizing for the injured Leighton Baines, to being loaned to WBA and currently, Sunderland without success. A return to his origins could well be the fillip his career obviously needs.

Very good deals. Looking forward to seeing them in action. :D

Tymon seems to dive in a fair bit. No risks there then. ;)

Both players sound promising, but it's another watching brief for me. Neither player has played much recently, we really haven't enough time to wait for players to gel, so we have to hope they are both match fit and hit the ground running, fingers crossed they will.

Brendan wouldn’t be a sub. Someone who has played a number of premiership games won’t be a sub in L1

Yes, if this does happen (it does seem a massive drop from where he has been playing), it will be a massive boost, Galloway would walk into our current side playing on one leg!

I have to disagree. Tymon will probably be left back, Ward & one other experienced player centre back and while I would consider him at defensive midfield we also have McGrandles. Plenty of youth players make a few appearances in the Premiership and drop down the leagues. In the end he wasn't considered good enough for a struggling Championship team, so despite his previous history with the club, if he came he would have a lot to prove.

Surprising we've re-sign Golbourne. I rate him, but on the off chance we might get a game or two is puzzling. :?

That should rule out Galloway's return. As Golbourne is still injured I can only guess that when his contract with Bristol City ends at the end of the season he will be signing permanently for us.
Happy with that.

Yep, a strange one. I wonder if his injury isn't as bad as first feared, but where else can he play? Wing back or winger? Centre half? Midfield?
