Dan has been sacked

Postby Furzdonny » Sun Apr 22, 2018 11:15 am

Dan has gone. I always thought that this was a gamble that Pete was prepared to try to the end of the season and so it has been proved. Good luck to Dan and hope he finds a coaching role or a manager's job in one of the lower leagues or better.

You may think so, but maybe Pete wasn't that impressed with the managers available after Robbie left and Dan came with this left-field plan. Pete decided to gamble until the end of the season, but it didn't work out.

Plenty of managers have suffered the same early fate with records similar to Dan's. So although an early sacking is not unusual, for us a club with a decent reputation regarding managers the timing does suggest that yes, this is a knee jerk reaction. However, PW is too cautious to take such drastic action on a whim, he obviously knows what is going on behind the scenes, sees how deflated both players and supporters are and knows that Dan hasn't got the dynamic personality to shake the players out of it.
Dan is a nice, pleasant bloke with an ideal temperament suitable for coaching but whilst managers can be pleasant, they must have a strong personality with a mean streak and bloody-mindedness to 'kick the hair dryer' and enforce themselves upon the players when necessary.
This being too nice is not a criticism of Dan, it just doesn't seem to be in his nature and whilst his departing is a surprise, it can't be said to be unjustified.

Not at all.

Balancing risk can be marginal thing. Sensible risk management. The gamble failed spectacularly. If there wasn’t confidence he knows what he was about, why gamble next season too?

I saw very little management potential. But clearly a great coach.

Time for us to grow up as a club and professionalise.

Addendum for the boys on the other forum. An exit by compromise agreement will always be expressed as mutual consent. It means the employer wants the employee out but pays him/her off to avoid a claim. Employee exits are resignations.

I'm pretty sure it was said that Micciche's appointment was made with the long term future in mind, not sure what supporters expected from DM, he inherited a mixture of under performing, poor and low in confidence players. Does this mean if we have another Manager and he gets off to a bad start in his first 15 or so games we should sack him?

Hopefully not AC. Maybe less risk seeking.
