Northampton match review

Postby Warwickshire MK Dons » Sat Oct 20, 2018 9:20 pm

Right then, thought Watson was unlucky to be on the bench, but Aneke, Agard and Healey all starting looked a positive move.
Nearly a goal up inside the first minute, the keeper making a decent save from Agard, only for Healey to have his goal chalked off for offside, good positive start. We continued to press, Gilbey started to control the midfield, cobblers reduced to pot shots, none of which troubled Nicholls, however Nicholls had one save to make, getting a strong hand to Williams strike. As the half appeared to be heading for all square, lewington swung the ball over, Moore - Taylor heads across and poacher Agard turns and fires home, right on half time.
So 1-0 up, just about deservedly earned, but the second half was all Dons, chance by chance came and went, the post off Aneke, the bar via Healey from outside the box, a strange decision to chalk off another Agard goal (apparently a push), two great saves from the visitors keeper, the one from Walsh was outstanding!
When Daniel Powell came on, he was put through from Van Veen, he was denied late on by Nicholls, crucial save, but we could and should have been out of site by then.
Overall, well deserved three points, Lewington definitely deserved mom award, but too a man al of them put a shift in, best performance of the season so far, poor ref, some of his decisions for both teams were baffling!
Another three points and clean sheet, looks like Tisdale has everyone on side, the sides playing for him and us, it's been a long time since I've said that!

Good report Warwick.

Although we were the better team playing the more controlled football we have to give Northampton some credit for the way they kept coming back at us and making this a decent, though nerve-racking, game to watch with us only having a one goal lead.

Games like this should see the return of many of our missing/floating supporters.

Credit to Paul Tisadale to changing the formation and getting some width to the team as well. I agree with Linslade's comment "Games like this should see the return of many of our missing/floating supporters." Unfortunately many will see 1-0 and assume it was a bore draw.

Good report Warwickdons, thanks. As we both agreed a few weeks ago, getting out of this league has to be top of our agenda, the 3-2 wins and pretty football can follow in the higher leagues. :D

Tisdale’s making good progress.

The football’s getting prettier and more successful all the time.
